New! This page has now been updated with Edith's final speech, Mark's speech/PowerPoint slide show and a full transcription of Martin's speech.
After the meal, several speeches were given, introduced by Dave Speller.
On this page, you can access the full text of each speech and, in the case of Paul and Mark Speller's, download the PowerPoint slide shows which accompanied them!
The speeches given were as follows:
Edith Speller, bride
Edith bravely went first, giving a short speech with a few personal thanks and what was to be an introduction to Kaie. Because Kaie was sadly too ill to attend the wedding, Edith had to rewrite her speech at the last minute to take account of this, and pick up Kaie's now-ironic toast! The full, updated text of Edith's speech can be read online.

Paul Speller, groom
Paul's speech was accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. The text of Paul's speech is available online, with an asterisk (*) at approximately each point where he pressed Space to advance the presentation.
You can download the presentation using the link below. The file is 2.5MB so it could take up to about 15 minutes on dial-up or a couple on broadband.
Bear in mind that you'll need at least PowerPoint 2002 (from Office XP) for it to work properly, and PowerPoint 2003 for every last detail to work in the same way! If you're using Internet Explorer, you should right-click the link below and choose Save Target As..., or it'll open instead of saving it.
For the full experience you can also download a video below. This will need to be placed in the same folder as the PowerPoint presentation before you play it back. If you don't want to bother with the video, just ignore any errors you get about it being missing and you won't miss much!

Mark Speller, Best Man
Mark's speech was also accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation (he did his first, Paul only did his because the projector was going to be there anyway, honest!). The text of Mark's speech is available online, separated into paragraphs roughly corresponding to advancements of the presentation.
The original file was enormous and unwieldy, but with a bit of work we've managed to get it down in size so it's now just huge and unwieldy! At 7.9MB, it could take a good half-hour or more on dial-up, so you'd best put the kettle on.
You'll need at least PowerPoint 2002 (from Office XP) for the slideshow to work properly. If you're using Internet Explorer, you should right-click the link below and choose Save Target As..., or it'll open instead of saving it.
As with Paul's, there's a video you may want to download for the full experience - save this into the same folder as the PowerPoint file and it should work. If you don't get the video, just ignore any errors you get and everything else will work fine.

- Download Mark's PowerPoint presentation (PowerPoint 2003, 7.9MB)
- Right-click to download Mark's accompanying video (AVI format, 3.4MB - may need a Motion JPEG codec decoder to play, and may therefore be more hassle than it's worth - download at your own risk!)
Martin Griffiths, Best Man
Finally, Martin gave a speech, covering how he came to know Paul, and some other bits and pieces including an e-mail he received from Paul when he had first spoken to Edith online!
Edith has now freeze-framed her way through the video of this speech, transcribing it as she went, so you can find out exactly what he said through the link below!
